America begins its entry into World War I.
On February 3rd 1917, America made its entry into World War I. This was prompted following the dissolution of diplomatic relations between America and Germany due to their unrestricted submarine warfare. The war finally ended in 1918.
Twin Peaks Tunnel finally opened!
The Twin Peaks Tunnel, based over in San Francisco finally began service on February 3rd 1918! It quickly became the longest streetcar tunnel on record, measuring a whopping 11,920 feet long!
It was the day music died.
February 3rd is remembered by many as being the day music died. This is due to the devastating plane crash that occurred back in 1959, claiming the lives of recording artists Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Don McLean refers to the tragic day in his iconic song, “American Pie”.

February 3rd 1984 is one of the most important days marked in recent medical history, as it’s the day that an embryo successfully transferred into another woman to produce a healthy pregnancy for the first time.
