  3. The currency here is called the Somali Shilling (SOS).
  4. The official languages are Somali and Arabic whilst English and Italian are second languages.
  1. Ancient rock paintings, dating back 5000 years, have been found in the northern part of Somalia. Laas Geel complex is the most famous, containing some of the earliest rock paintings on the continent.
  2. Shebelle (702 miles/1,130 kilometres) and Juba (624 miles/ 1,004 kilometres) are Somalia’s two main rivers.
  3. Agriculturally Somalia produces bananas, corn, sorghum (type of grain), coconuts, cattle and also fish.
