Zheng He set sail for the spice islands.

On July 11th, back in 1405, legendary Chinese fleet master Zheng He officially launched his 208-strong fleet off on a journey to explore the Spice Islands. He took a staggering number of crew with him – 27.800 sailors across 208 boats of varying sizes!

Kate Edger

Kate Edger made history.

In 1877, Kate Edger became New Zealand's first female graduate. She was also the first woman in the whole of the British Empire to earn a Bachelor of Arts! She paved the way for millions of women to follow in the decades to come.

To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird made an impact.

In 1960, the book "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee first saw publication. The book became a huge success, though for decades was the only book Lee ever wrote and released. The book tells us the story of Atticus Finch, a white lawyer defending a black arrestee against a backdrop of intense racial prejudice.

Guzmán broke free!

Yes, jailbreaks really do exist – and infamous cartel figurehead, Joaquín Guzmán, broke free from his Mexican stronghold in 2015 using an incredible tunnel system – but he was later apprehended after a massive search spree, six months after he’d slipped the net.
