June 12th sounds like just another summer’s day, right? Maybe not. It’s not only famous for marking some of history’s most notable moments, but it’s also a great day to dress up like Superman and eat some falafel. As weird as that sounds, you’re going to need to keep reading for the context…!

The French started colonizing Algeria.
In 1830, today marked the beginning of the French colonization of Algeria. 34,000 French soldiers landed only 27 kilometers (16.77 miles) west of Algiers, specifically at Sidi Ferruch.
The Battle of Trevilian Station took place.
In 1864, the Battle of Trevilian Station, best-known for being the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War, took place in Louisa County. It was also the largest all-cavalry battle of the Civil War. The Confederates won the battle, but as we all know, they didn’t win the war.
Anne Frank received a very important present.
In 1942, Anne Frank received her famous diary as her birthday present in Amsterdam. The diary went on to become one of the most important and devastating pieces of literature in history, recounting the atrocities that Anne Frank and her family had to endure through the Second World War.
That Singapore summit took place.
June 12th, 2018, saw the famous Singapore summit between North Korea's Kim Jong-Un and America's Donald Trump took place. It was the first time that a North Korean leader and an incumbent US President had met! It was a meeting that certainly turned heads… and generated a few memes in the bargain, too.

On June 12th, 2019, we found the earliest evidence yet of humans smoking cannabis! It was discovered in a 2500-year-old grave in the Paris Mountains in China.

When it comes to cookies, very few beat the marvelous peanut butter variety. It manages to be sweet, salty, soft, and crunchy all at the same time! How?! We don't know for certain, but we do know that today is the perfect day to cook up a batch and enjoy the crunch in your own time.
Superman Day
Ok, so – we’ve all heard of Superman. June 12th happens to be Clark Kent’s day in the limelight, as fans everywhere choose to share comics, watch movies, or even dress up as their favorite hero and have parades. Life’s too short not to dress up as Superman occasionally – so be sure to give him some love (and keep away from the Kryptonite!).
