National Strawberry Ice Cream Day

🗓️ On This Day - June 22nd

June 22nd is a wonderful day for confectionaries, showing affection, and to look back at some important moments in societal history. Congratulations if you already have reasons to celebrate today - and here are some of the most important things worth remembering about June 22nd!

On this day

Queen Elizabeth 2

There was a royal meet cute.

In 1939, today was the date that Princess Elizabeth (the future Queen Elizabeth II) first met her future husband, Prince Philip of Greece. They remained married and united until his death in 2021 – the Queen would pass away just over a year later.

Tasting an ice cream

We all scream for ice cream!

Who doesn’t love a good Dairy Queen? Well, did you know that they first opened their doors in Joliet, in Illinois, back in 1940? Since that date, they’ve become synonymous with frozen treats across the nation. Though today is apparently chocolate eclair day – why not sneak a quick ice cream or froyo while you’re at it?

Adolf Hitler

France surrendered to Nazi Germany.

Mid-World War II, June 22nd saw the Allied French surrender land to the invading Nazis of Germany, led by Adolf Hitler. More specifically, the northern part of France became occupied and became known as the Nazi client state Vichy France.

Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder made history.

In 1963, Stevie Wonder released his first single, Fingertips, at the age of 13! The song became the first live non-studio song ever to rocket to number one on the Billboard chart – now that's an accolade you'd want to hang on your wall.

Maradona displayed his “Hand of God.”

In one of the most brazen and yet most iconic moments of international soccer history, the late Diego Maradona scored a goal in a very interesting way in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup of 1986 (specifically, on June 22nd). He scored for Argentina using his hand – which the referee allowed! Maradona called this the “head of Maradona” and the “hand of God” – and history was made. Argentina went on to win the cup that year.

Special Days Falling on June 22nd

Breaking away from history for a little while, let's look at some of the most interesting occasions celebrated on June 22nd. Time to enjoy a kiss, munch on some onion rings, and try a sweet treat or two!
Kiss a Ginger Day

National Kissing Day

A kiss is one of the absolute best ways to show affection. It can be an innocent kiss between friends, a kiss between family members to show love, and between partners to show passion! And, today, on National Kissing Day, make sure to kiss the ones you love and show them how much you care. Just remember to keep it appropriate, and keep it consensual!

onion rings

National Onion Rings Day

Once you’re done with kissing all of your loved ones, why not try an onion ring or two? Today’s apparently the “official” day to enjoy some of these deep-fried snacks. However, we do strongly suggest eating the onion rings after you’ve finished kissing – for breath-related reasons!

chocolate eclair

National Chocolate Eclair Day

And, what better way to end your day than with a chocolate eclair? These chocolatey, creamy treats are rare luxuries – it's not particularly healthy to indulge in them every day, so make sure to save space in your schedule for one or two on June 22nd if you can.
